Crimson Phoenix, a Reston, Virginia-based company, has added former Pentagon personnel to its team in recent months. This is due to the company’s significant work for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) for at least a year.

This includes supporting the Integration and Coordination Group Russia (ICG Russia), the agency’s intelligence fusion platform monitoring the war in Ukraine.

Crimson employees track troop movements daily, identifying Russian equipment and locating it using geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) systems, particularly the Defense Intelligence Community’s “Map of the World” program. The intelligence agencies then disseminate the reports to chiefs of staff and political authorities.

Crimson Phoenix was founded in 2019 by defense industry veterans Phil Hubbell, Ty Crockett, and Brad Becker and is now backed by Godspeed Capital. The company received the contract as a party to the DIAO framework agreement, Solutions for the Information Technology Enterprise III (SITE III).

The contract provides the agency with a wide range of private service providers that can be mobilized as needed. In addition to Russia, Crimson works for the DIAO in the Indo-Pacific region.

ICG Russia is the DIAO’s most active integrated platform. This was the case before the launch of the Joint Military Operations Program in February 2022. It collects all information of military interest on the ground, disseminates it within the administration, from the Pentagon to the White House, and responds to requests from all recipients. At the height of the Ukrainian conflict, the center received over 500 requests for information per day from these stakeholders.
